Senior pranksters use and abuse the Postal Service

I'm all for having fun. But a recent senior prank by a high school in Grafton, OH, High School has "pushed the envelope" and has the gained the unwelcome interest of Postal Inspectors.

The 19 graduating seniors decided to go out with bang. They went to usps.com and ordered a few free Priority Boxes. (Actually, they ordered more than a few.) They click and shipped a total of 5,100 boxes, then stacked them in the hallway from the floor to the ceiling. Students and teachers tried to report to class, but were met with a postal sea.

To their credit, they didn't trash the boxes and are returning them to the Post Office. But Inspectors are bringing the kids in for a stern talking to and a reminder that postal products are to be used for postal uses.

Read the story here.

Who says the younger generation doesn't use the Postal Service? How do you think we should we handle this? Got any ideas on Turn a bad situation into something good?

Comment here.

Good for the kids! They give us free advertising and pull off a prank that does no harm. Plus they get A+ for recycling back to the Postal Service. :-)

The kids are listening to all of the USPS advertising. USPS.COM, free packaging, we are getting our word out. No harm done, maybe some will work for the USPS some day. I'm sure not going to throw stones.

The kids were inventive without harming anyone. I love they chose the Post Office Boxes. Granted we now have to take them back but I'm sure someone out there will use them. The kids gave us enough free advertising. Go easy Inspectors I doubt this will occur again.

I disagree with the comments so far. If they have to pay out of there pockets for what they've done next time they'll think twice before pulling a prank! Charge them the priority mail flat rate charge for that box. Might have a hard ass attitude but when growing up my most valuable lessons were the ones that cost me money.

Those kids NEED more than
"a stern talking to"
Federal Issue
5100 boxes? On LARGE orders:
Maybe confirm order by I.D.etc.
That pranks cost somebody,
somewhere...valuable time.
Kids serve some time by doing
Community Service.

Don't be too hard on these kids...their prank was harmless as pranks go. No one was injured and no property was destroyed. The USPS got some free advertising and the boxes were returned. I think letting the Inspectors scare the bejeebers out of them is punishment enough!!

why not make these kids and the other ones in the whole school send something to our soliders over seas.

I agree with the person who said the students should have to use the boxes to send packages to soldiers overseas. Perhaps they could turn it into a community project with the pranksters using some of their own money for postage and volunteering their time to collect items and pack and mail the parcels. More good advertising for USPS, good community service and the students might learn a valuable lesson.

Wonderful comment about having these kids ship a priority box to the troops overseas!!

I agree, they need to use those boxes for a good cause... some to the troops, some to provide books to summer activities for kids. I think there should be some payment for their foolishness. After all, they stacked all those boxes and NONE OF THEM READ THE MESSAGE ON THE BOX!!

I love the free advertising, too, but I agree with the guys(and gals) that say let them have some type of punishment and I love the ideas of making them send boxes overseas or to children in need.

Lesson learned; No harm done; Shows some future Postal customers read and listen to Postal advertising.
