Now we are in the business of saving bats, too

The Vail, AZ, Post Office lost their roof in a microburst storm last week. And along with the roof went the hidden home of a colony of pallid bats. There are only seven known colonies in the state of Arizona.

A number of locals walked around the office, flapping their arms. Their demonstration was to call attention to the plight of the bats. Locals have even started a fund to "Raise the Roof," helping restore the roof and help the bats return home.

What is your opinion on this? Comment here.

Bats are very beneficial. I have had a bat house on my house for over 20 years. They really keep the bugs to a minimum. So I say, go for it.

I think it's awesome and will only add to the Postal Service's impeccable credentials as a "green" organization.

The PO gets a new roof and the bats get a new home. Sounds good to me.

Sounds batty to me.

well, perhaps as in one of the comments above, we could somehow have the bats put/trace their home into one of the customers flapping their wings homes---have them enjoy the fruits of their cause.

We have bats our post office and I have worked in another post office where if you find a bat you can call a guy, who happened to be my uncle, who has bat houses and he would even come get the bats.

If he Post Office paid the city carriers evaluated the way they pay the rural carriers we would not have the OT or POT and we could save a ton of money in salaries each year. ust think of how quick they would all get done if they were not soaking up the OT/POT everyday. Has anyone thought of this as an answer to the Post Offices money issues.

To the above post....what does that have to do with bats? :)

I think you meant this for another post on the site. I think there should be a fixed salary for all carriers, in a manner similiar to the rural carriers. There would be a lot less stress chasing the numbers.

I agree with the above comment. I know there are many carriers who give 110%, but there are lots who drag their feet to get the OT. I've always thought they should be paid on an evaluated basis similar to the rural carriers. I'm not too concerned about the bats--I'm more concerned about saving the Postal Service!
