A poll on the latest early out offer and incentive

By now, you've heard that the Postal Service has offered another early out -- this time to those who are covered by the APWU and NPMHU agreements.

Up to 30,000 employees can take the $15,000 buyout that is spread out over the next two years.

So what do you think? On the upper right corner of Your Postal Blog is a poll where you can voice your opinion.

Here's the poll choices:
  • I'm going, thanks to the incentive!
  • I'll take the incentive, but I was going this year, anyway
  • I'm eligible for the incentive, but I'm not ready
  • I'm not eligible, but I'd jump if I could
  • I'm not eligible, but I still wouldn't take it

Or you might have another opinion -- go ahead and voice it here.

All ready retired from management. We don't get it anyway. Glad the craft has a strong union. I should have stayed in craft. Would have gone back to it, but retired instead. At one time I thought I could change things if I was in management. Found out upper management doesn't want to hear any good ideas.

It's tempting, believe me, but I have almost 1500 hours of sick leave that I would basically loose if I go. If I got paid for that AND my accumulated annual leave AND the incentive I would very seriously think about it. I am so dissappointed with the Postal Service that I am going to have a hard time staying as long as I have to.

I'm not eligible, but I'd jump is I could. I still have one in high school and the cost of college necessitate that I work until I'm 90 years of age.

I will be 53 in Oct. '09. CSRS. With s/l I have 35 yrs. in. Always believed and planned to retire at 55. Can't stop grinning. Yes, I'm taking the offer!

I am new employee and not sure if I am eligible but I would have taken it if I had plans to leave decided to stay put and want to be dedicated to Success of USPS and be part of it. Probably not sure vote should also inlcude not sure if I am eligible.I'm eligible for the incentive, but I'm not ready maybe similar option I guess.

Will not retire until they resolve sick leave for FERS, craft employees. I am disappointed in the FERS FLU epidemic.

I think it's a good deal for those who were planning to retire now or in the next year or anyone who has training or opportunities for a second career. It will make up for part of the losses some experienced in TSP accounts. I'll be interested in seeing if they extend this to other employees if fewer take this, as I suspect. I think this should be an option for admin and support employees whose positions are being (or could be) abolished.

I'm not eligible, but I'd jump is I could. My husband retires next year- would be great to retire with him.

Please resolve the sick leave for FERS and I will go.

Staying on the ship!
FERS employee-
Can't go yet anyway, but I want to be here when we turn around-don't you?

I'm not eligible, but wouldn't take it anyway. Lost too much in my TSP. I also, was very disappointed that FERS employees didn't get the sick leave benefit. Would make a big difference. I don't believe that the Postal Service will see the reduction that they plan on tho.

I wouldn't go; can't afford it. I do however want to stick around. I would have to work no matter what, why work somewhere else for peanuts and be miserable. I have worked hard to get to my position and like what I do.

I'm in it for the long haul.

I'm not eligible, but would take it. I work PT and find the continual changes make my job alot harder for a minimal wage.

I'll take the incentive, but I was going this year anyway. Although I was going to stay thru December. So today is my last day!! I have a great job and work with good people. I will miss all of them.

This is the postal service's version of "Cash for Clunkers"

I love it!

Offer the incentive to other groups also, both bargaining and non-bargaining. Also give more time to get ready for retirement, have last date to go March or April of 2010. I would go if they would adopt this suggestion.

When will EAS employees be given an incentive?
I was thinking about going this year, but not now! I will wait for them to "sweeten the pot" before I consider retirement.

If you are CSRS you will not loose your sick leave or annual leave. Check out the facts. I am eligible and will take it.

I'm EAS, so I'm not eligible, but if I was, I would not take it. $15,000 in today's dollars is not really a lot of money. I have 29 years in, so I could go in a year. I think I'd hold out until then and collect what I'm eligible for until CSRS.

Like a ship deserting a sinking rat, I will go. In the words of that old song, "Free at last, Free at last. Thank God almighty, I'm free at last" Best wishes to those who remain from this ole hippie postal worker in Oregon.

I would love to go, I am eligible but can't afford to. If we had insurance coverage I would think about it but I can't afford health insurance and I'm not old enough for medicare.

$15K too little an incentive. It's a one time shot and taxes will take a good chunk of it. Add years to my service so that will increase my retirement over the long haul. Or provide a combination of upfront money and add a few years. Or better yet, give me a choice of money or years or a combination.

Not a clerk or MH, so not eligible right now. I am a FERS employee and my 1900 hrs. SL balance right now is worth about $50K. Give me some years credit or pay something for my unused SL and I'll think more about it!

I'm not eligible, but I'd jump if I could. This ship is sinking fast. I agree that there should be a percentage of your sick leave or the $15,000.00, which ever is greater.

As EAS I am not eligible, but will be interested in seeing how our newer employees respond. If they are looking at losing their job or transferring to a new city to keep it, this may give them the cushion they need to continue their education or look for a new job.

give me credit for my sick leave and I will go.

Add an extra "0" to the end of that $15,000 offer and I'd go in a minute...but so would everyone else. I am eligible and would love to go, but $15,000 is too little of an incentive...just can't afford to!

let us FERS people use our sick leave towards retirement and offer the incentive, maybe more people would take it.Have people that can retire already retire. let someone else work

if the offer were more substantial, i would go. with 6 in, my professional mentality has not been completely skewed by the service and i could take the time to look for something else as i am very marketable. honestly, with the trends in volume continuing and our inability to reverse the downward slope, i would not be suprised if i stay and am forced to reapply for my job after controlling interest the service is purchased by one of our competitors.
