This picture from 1912 shows a carrier delivering and collecting mail from a motorized cart.
This clunky cart is designed to receive mail from collection boxes. Thankfully, it never caught on. What do you think about this? Comment here.

This is a great photo. Did you notice the correct placement of the tires to prevent a rollaway/runaway?
YEP NOW HE HAS TO BACK-UP BEFORE HE CAN GO FORWARD. THATS A TIME WASTING PRACTICE.
i believe that is a great photo
Back then, things were "clunky" but for the price of postage, things were a lot slower and involved a lot more humans to get the job done!! Today, our patrons want us to "catch up" with the fast pace of the future and would like us to maintain that same "low cost" on postage while (at the same time) creating less jobs for humans as the price of Automation increases. Seems to me that we've got ourselves in quite a pickle !!
Of course it caught on. The vehicle may be different, but we're using motorized collection vehicles -- and have been for the better part of a century. Doh!

Our customers are voting with their feet. What they say and what they do are often two different things.
