Open for business

There's a possibly that our Federal government may be near a partial shutdown. Several agencies are working on their shutdown contingency plans.

But not us.

Do your customers know that the USPS will remain open? Why? Since the Postal Reorganization Act of 1971, the USPS has only taken appropriations for material for the blind and overseas voting. And that's it.

The only affect might be that we may not accept Passport applications.

Let them know we are proud of that! And let them know it's business as usual for us.

Care to comment?

Most people I speak with don't know that we are pretty much self supporting. They think their taxes help pay for the "post office".
Even though I pleasantly remind them that's incorrect, most still don't believe it!!

I, too, answer in an upbeat, polite way that we are self-supporting which is why we are so appreciative of our customers. The most frequent response is a disbelieving "yeah, right". Maybe if we just keep repeating ourselves we can get the message across.

I've had a few conserned clients wondering about our fate. I answered that our wages are paid by the postage that they purchased. Then I ask them, now aren't you glad that we've raised postage rates so many times?? Most laugh and say YES!

I was talking with a customer the other day and we were discussing the next rate increase. They didn't like the fact that we were raising the prices....but then I asked the question: If you had to pay for the delivery of mail to your house each day...how much do you think it would cost? Now compare that to amount of stamps you bought this year. Even though they do pay for the postage on items delivered to them...in a round about way...it is an eye opener. :)
