Rural Carrier logs 500,000 miles on one vehicle

Ken Boss, a rural carrier in Salina, KS, recently hit the 500,000-mile mark in his 1999 right-hand-drive Subaru Legacy.

He was recently featured in a Subaru owners magazine.

He puts 200 a miles a day on the vehicle, 147 of them are on the route and the rest are commuting to his workplace. He gets about 25 miles to the gallon.

According to Boss, the car still has the original engine and transmission. He's tracked 167 oil changes over the years.

"That car has never left me stranded on the route," he said.

Do you know of anyone who has driven further in a vehicle delivering mail?

If you are a rural carrier, what's been your favorite vehicle?

Subaru should feature this carrier and his vehicle on a commercial promoting their reliability - something like their cars are as reliable as the US Mail. A win-win for both them and USPS.

I love Merk's idea. Marketing - are you listening?

WOW! 500,000 miles! I never dreamed a car could go that far on the same engine! Makes you wanna go out and buy one!

My Sister-in-Law just bought her third one in 21 years. Her first one had about 200,000 miles on it when she bought her second one. My brother continued to drive her first one until it had 432,000 miles when it got hit and totaled. The only reason she bought her third one last year is because her daughter needed a car for collage that was dependable. My next car is going to be a Subru. They are very good cars and her 3 are all American made vehicles.
