Stamp subject suggestion: Postal Employees

Peter Picard, who works at the Indian Orchard, MA, Post Office, recently Suggested that a commemorative stamp collection be produced to honor the people who move the mail -- clerks, carriers, mail handlers, maintenance workers, etc.

"This would give customers a better understanding of what is involved in getting their mail delivered."

There actually was a set issued before, but it could use some updating.

USPS has said that living subjects can now be used on stamps, so how about a different twist? You could be working next to the person who's face is on a billion stamps!

What do you think? Good idea? Any suggestions of postal employees to put on stamps?

I like the idea.....it will remind people that even though automation is growing....there are still people working the mail!

These are my favorite stamps! Yes -- they should do it again.

I love this setenant, too! And I would love to see an update featuring real postal workers. People could submit their favorite postal workers. I nominate Patty, who works at my post office in Pittsburgh, PA. She always likes to chat about mail.

might as well... the real postal workers will be a thing of the past...

This will generate a collective groan and eye roll, at best, from the public. I appreciate the concept, but it's not as if we do our jobs from the goodness of our hearts. I work hard and treat my customers and their mail with courtesy and respect because that's who I am, and that's what I'm paid to do. I, for one, do not need recognition on a stamp.

A little updating? I would say! I started out on the LSM's...would probably still be there if they hadn't been declared "dinosaurs" and taken out of service!

I do have to agree with Robert, though. Promoting ourselves on stamps might be seen as self-serving given the bad press we are continually getting right now. We know better, but the public often has a different view.

It irritates me when Postmasters are left out of the "moving the mail" statements. I unload the cages, I sort the mail to my carriers, I put the mail in the po boxes and when my city carriers need a day off, I deliver the mail. It would be nice if some of the craft employees respected and appreciated their boss. I give my carriers respect and they give it right back. We all work together to move the mail in our office.

As an OIC/PMR(omygosh, non-career), it would be nice to get the recognition and respect due us "temporary" and disposable employees. We also work hard for our customers and USPS. Working the days no one else does, with no benefits or status. I'm getting tired of USPS and career employees looking down their collective noses at us, but they sure want us around to work for them and save them a bunch of money because we are non-career. I save the USPS over $40,000 a year as oppose to a PM. Yet they are still trying to close my office. Lets hear it for all the non-career employees who also support USPS and the rest of you.
