Off the clock

Benny here...

I'm big on philanthropy. I formed the first volunteer fire department and was involved in a number of volunteer organizations.

Do you like to volunteer? What ways do you give to your community? Is it important for postal employees to step up locally?  Comment here.

I work for public broadcasting and we have had postal workers volunteer to answer phones. I LOVE when we have postal workers as volunteers. I like to quiz them about whether they read the backs of postcards (I get about 100 postcards mailed to me a week) and so far, most of the postal workers who sort mail say they do occasionally read the postcards but none of the carriers. I love that my postcards might be enjoyed by others besides me!

Remember USPS is already a bot-for Profit independently run like business federal volunteer organization. We include people with no discrimnation and especially ready to receive more than any other Organization IMHO

My family and I are very active in our church, teaching Sunday School, leading the Youth Group, and working with the women's group. I also volunteer at a local art gallery. I get a lot of self-fulfillment out of serving others and find volunteer work extremely rewarding. If I didn't have my full-time postal job, I'd do more!!

I volunteer at a church Clothing Closet monthly that gives out clothing free to people in need. It is rewarding to talk to some of the people who come and by no means do I feel that I am better than them. Anyone, any time can be in a place of need. If and when it happens to me, I hope I can be as gracious of a receiver as I have been able to be as a giver.

Yes I too volunteer through a local Rodeo Club, I help the kids learn events that are performed during the Dakota Youth Series over the summer. I also help when I can at our local church, and I am just getting started with the Special Olympics for the Equesterin chapter. Horses are my way of life, and I love to share my knowledge of them.

I joined the Chamber of Commerce and this being a small community we have a local theatre that is pretty much ran by volunteers. I do the books and booking for them. I really think that being a Postmaster it is very essential to be involved in the community.

I volunteer at church teaching religious education and I am also a den leader in my son's Cub Scout troop. I also volunteer at my childrens' schools when time allows. That is one thing that I like about having Thursday and Friday off, I am able to put some time and energy into helping others and teaches my children valuable lessons.
