Dog Walks Eight-Mile Route with Arkansas Carrier

Carriers in Gurdon, Arkansas, have a four-legged escort that is now a visible part of the city's mail delivery. KTHV ran a great story on "Suzy the mail dog." The TV station told the story about the dog, who is owned by a customer four blocks away.

Suzy just just shows up every morning to go for her long eight-mile walk with City Carrier Sally Tarpley.

"It just adds something a little more special to my day having her with me," Tarpley said.

The customers love the dog and it enhances Postal Service visiblity.

What do you think?

I always thought that the dogs tried to bite mailmen!! Good to see something positive in the news!

In the headlines on the prior page the abbreviation for Arkansas is AR not AK.

souns like we have another Oney! I'm surprised the owner allows the dog to roam. Great company for the carrier.

Hate to be a downer, but what would our liability be sould the dog ever bite someone?

If you go to the KTHV site you can see Suzy the dog. It also has the story in more detail. The Letter Carrier she originally bonded with, Robert, passed away and she has since accompanied other carriers on their routes. She is returned home by a USPS employee at the end of each day. Pretty cool story.

I think that is a great idea and the mail carrier enjoys having the dog with her.
