Doh! The Simpson family get their own stamp?

Is this for real?

The Postal Service announced that the FOX television series THE SIMPSONS will be commemorated on 44-cent First-Class Mail stamps.

Featuring Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson, the stamps have been personally designed by Simpsons creator Matt Groening. Winner of 24 Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award and a multitude of other accolades, this historic series starring the five family members is the longest-running primetime comedy in television history.

A sneak peek of THE SIMPSONS stamps will be made on Thurs., April 9 at 8 a.m. ET at http://www.usps.com/.

At that time, the Postal Service will announce the date the stamps go on sale and how to pre order the stamps.

What do you think about this family on a stamp? Comment here.

To each their own, I guess. I personally think the show is distasteful and am sorry the USPS sees fit to promote such values. Since the show seems to be such a hit, I hope the stamps are a great revenue booster for us at least.

I am sorry, but I think the commission could spend better time researching a better subject than the Simpsons. What is wrong with Peanuts, Monsters, Inc., Cars, Shriek or even Chicken Little? They are much more endearing and loveable characters. Simpson's are rude and offensive and I never let my family watch them. What message are we sending to the public?

It's about time we had something new as far as 21 century comedy on a stamp.Yeah I get they can go a little far at times, but there is always a hidden message if you are willing to open your eyes for new
ideas. Can't wait to see them!!!!

I agree with Anonymous and Edie -- the show is distasteful, and the characterThe Simpsons represent everything ANTI-family, IMHO, so there is no way I would buy the stamps myself! It will be bad enough for me to have to sell them.

I am not a prude, but I have never watched a full episode of the Simpsons. My kids and I were watching one episode in the early years and as soon as Bart referred to his father as an idiot, I turned off the television and told my kids "No Simpsons in this house." I certainly didn't want my children to think it was funny to undermine and disrespect authority. So needless to say, I am not thrilled that they have been chosen as a stamp subject.

Think - Think - Think, easier than ooop -oops- opps! Some one missed the boat here!

I agree. I think the USPS really missed the boat by putting The Simpsons on a stamp. They are very offensive and anti-family. I think USPS represents what is good about America (unity, family, etc.) and therefore should more carefully consider what they put on our stamps!

I'm just curious - did the PO have to pay royalties to use the cartoon likeness (I can't imagine them letting us do it for FREE). If so, how does that fit in with the 'save every penny' mentality we are hearing every day? Also, most stamp buyers are not of the generation that watches the show. I think the only demand will be from collectors who hope the value increases once the youngsters get old enough to want them.

This is a product that will sell and help support your jobs. Similar comments have been made about every pop culture stamp issued. While the Simpsons may not be your cup of tea, they certainly have been popular enough to have been on tv for 20 YEARS! The average sophomore in college has always had the Simpsons on TV. They are a part of the American culture whether or not you watch them. Just like Star Wars, sell they will, yes.

The choice of the Simpsons is a poor one. Why would the USPS promote such a rude and disrespectful image? It probably comes from our marketing department trying to generate revenue. But at what cost? Are we now giving up morals and ethics just to make a buck? There are many other icons to choose from, so why this?

I think USPS dropped the ball on this choice. With so many beautiful things in the plant and animal kingdom, I can't believe we choose this senseless TV family. Do we really want people to believe they are admirable? I never thought about royalties - I really would like to know the answer there! If USPS chose them for revenue, why not make each person a sheet of stamps instead of putting them all on one sheet. Collectors would have to have all of them.

Whatever happened to having nice stamps. People always ask for a nice stamp. All we have had is crap for the past 5 years. Shame on the Postal Service for putting out the Simpsons.......so disrespectful!!

COME ON PEOPLE..WHAT WORLD DO YOU LIVE ON? WALK OUTSIDE AND EVERYTHING YOU HEAR AND SEE IS WORSE THAN WHAT IS ON THE SIMPSONS. IN SCHOOL THEY WILL HEAR WORSE. GIVE ME A BREAK. EVERYONE KNOWS WHO THE SIMPSONS ARE AND THEY WILL BE A GREAT REVENUE BOOST.

People need to just relax and learn how to change in a changing world. Its sink or swim time and i for one will do whatever it takes to stat afloat. The Simpsons are what the upcoming generation were brought up on. I am very Happy that the Simpsons are coming out on a stamp and i cannot wait to see them. Everyone always complains about things they dont understand....all that means is that those stamps are not targeted at you. We do have other stamps nobody is twisting anybodys arm to buy them.

Putting the Simpsons on a stamp just makes the Postal Service lose the respect it deserves for the service we provide. We want the public to use our products and services yet we commemorate these low class cartoon characters. We should not associate us with them on any level. Who is making these decisions?
