Well, here's a first.
The Postal Service is kicking around the idea of a "summer sale" for large mailers.
The discount would apply to the nation's 5,000 largest mailers and is expected to be between 20 and 30 percent, depending on the volume of mail sent. Of course, any proposal has to first go through the Postal Regulatory Commission.
What do you think about reducing our rates for the traditionally slow summer season? Click here to let me know.

Hello, I think it's a wonderful idea to have a summer sale on our standard mail, especially in Alaska. It would be good for Walmart, Alaska Grocery Shippers, Span Alaska. Would this include the by-pass mail rates?
What a great idea! Particularly if it is not written in stone for every summer into eternity (hoping that mail volume increases on its own at some point...).
If it's going to keep on BIG customers that are thinking about leaving or going to solidify our contracts with customers...I say YES!
As it is targeted to only a few mailers will the USPS actually see an increase in revenue?
This is a great idea to entice customers to use standard mail during our off peak times. But from what I've been reading it is too quick of a turn around for some of the big mailers. We always seem to be a step behind in alot of our promotions.
On one hand I am glad to see any effort to increase volume and revenue. On the other hand I am dismayed to think that we are only trying to woo the large mailers and thumbing our nose at small business - not a friendly atmosphere at all.
There a number of companies that put there products on sale, why wouldn't we jump at the chance if allowed to do so. If it helps stimulate business and increase revenue........it's a no brainer!!
Bad idea.
So, I am down another 2 hrs. after this past mail count, and they want more delivery just for the summer, which means I may work more hours for less pay, hey , now that's a brand new idea---- isn't it?
This is a good idea and other good ideas can come from the experience. Innovation is key in this down economy.
When I travel with my grandchildren I have them buy a postcard each day from a spot we visit that day. In the evening, before bed they write down something that was important to them that happened that day. When they get home they have a diary of their trip. What about encouraging people who are traveling with children this summer to write postcards (and mail them) by discounting one postcard stamp from Labor Day to Memorial Day. Maybe we could inspire our children to write more, mail more!
