What stamp would you issue?

Benny the Blogger here.

Over the years, we’ve issued more than 4,000 postage stamps featuring more than 800 people and a variety of subjects.

The very first stamp issued was in 1847 – and guess who was featured? That’s right. Me! I wish they hadn't used that picture. I had a terrible hair day for the portrait.

But honestly, I never gave stamps much thought in my day. But if I would have had my say, I probably would have just stuck with flag stamps – and George, of course.

Over the years, I’ve been flattered to have my own image on stamps at least a half-dozen times. I must say that a stamp puts 10, 20 or even 30 pounds on a person. I wonder what that will do to the already portly Homer Simpson?

As you might know, USPS will be issuing a series of stamps honoring America’s #1 cartoon family – the Simpsons.

We’ve had stamps honoring Dr. Suess, the Muppets, Disney characters and various super heroes. Pop culture has been represented with the Hollywood Legends, Beatles, I Love Lucy, Star Wars and many more.

What would you like to see on a stamp? Drop me a note here.
And welcome to all our new readers. Won't you do Benny a favor and subscribe to my blog? You can use your personal or your postal email address. How about stamps of America's most beautiful beaches? What a great summer time stamp. Siesta Key, Trunk Bay, Magen's Bay, ...who doesn't love the beach?

I would like to see a Teal Ribbon in support of ovarian cancer research.

I would like to see a stamp honoring author Gene Stratton Porter. She was born in the late 1800's in Indiana, and had 2 homes where she practiced conservation and appreciation of natural habitats. She moved to California, and was involved in making some of her books into movies. She died way before her time in the 1920's after being hit by a vehicle while crossing the street.

I would like for a price Sponsors and advertisers make stamps with their logo for sale at Postoffices and for their own. This would be a good revenue. Retailing can decide how it is made and sold.

Our current "Greetings" stamp isn't very attractive, not many customers like it. I think if we had a nicer "Greetings" or "Celebrate" stamp that could be used for birthdays, holidays, etc. it would be more popular.

The post office made money on the Elvis stamp I think they should do another Elvis stamp!

Has anyone thought of our most watched sport NASCAR? We could have NASCAR, NHRA, WORLD OF OUTLAW SPRINT CARS and so on. It is a tremendous opportunity. I come from a long line of racers and I know how much this would bring revenue into our business. I would think about it!!!!

How about more beautiful flags and our servicemen keeping us safe.

How about the love of America??

Really sick of the corny ones like Simsons..that is NOT America!!!

A Teal Ribbon is a great idea! A fellow postal worker in my office is currently undergoing treatment for this disease and years ago another fellow postal worker that I worked with unfortunately lost her battle with the disease. An awareness stamp for ovarian cancer is long overdue.

It never fails... always around any holiday, I get asked if we have stamps for that particular holiday. easter, mother's day, halloween, thanksgiving etc. If we want our customers to continue to use stamps, lets make them more appealing.

A red dress symbol in honor of
women's heart health. This is an
important issue. My mother passed
away from a heart attack, two of
my sisters have had heart attacks
(not fatal)and a male co-worker
lost two teenage daughters to heart
problems. This issue is universal.

On the lighter side, I would like
to see Sponge Bob on a stamp.

I understand that we need to save money and making stamps which are useful to a wider range of customers seems logical. Why can't we make a nice white balloons, roses, ribbons or other generic "celebration" stamp which could be used for everything from wedding, thank you, christening, sympathy, anniversary, birthday, etc?

I would like to see a graduation stamp. Each year I am asked for stamps to put on graduation annoucements.

With thousands of high school seniors graduating every year we are missing a great opportunity to issue a stamps honoring graduates. Nothing fancy, just a mortar board and tassel would do.

My father, brother, uncle, and cousins are all truckers. I would like a picture series of different trucks honoring the men and women transporting all that we need via trucks across our nation.

I would like to see a stamp celebrating homeopathy - which is a successful alternative to allopathic medicine.

I think the Purple Heart stamp should be changed to a semi-postal with proceeds going to Diasabled Veterans care.

I have had many customers that have been asking for better Christmas stamps. How about ornaments or some more snow flakes. Everyone loved those.

The idea of a teal ribbon for ovarian cancer awareness could be taken as the next semi-postal stamp. In my small hometown of 800 people, there have been at least 5-7 women who have died of this disease in the last like 3 years. It is rapidly becoming a more aggressive disease.

I would like to see a set of stamps honoring each branch of the US Military.

i agree with the one of truckers. my husband , son and brother-in-law are truckers. really without trucks we wouldn't get alot of the much needed food, supplies , lumber, etc. it is also a very hard job. being away from home and slways on the road.

I would like to see stamps with MLB and NFL teams on them. Definatly need some different variety!! People come in to buy stamps and they are not interested in the stamps who have people on them who they have NO idea who they are. They want pretty, colorful, fun stamps. I agree about the celebrate stamps, they need something different, I have a lot of customers who want the Birthday stamp back. Have the public put their input in USPS.com

I would like to see a stamp honoring Harvey Milk.

How about a stamp on the rancher or the all american farmer? Seems like there are not many left anymore and are getting less! Even the small farms are getting extinct !

I would like to see stamps honoring the Challenger astronauts.

Also, Americans spend so much money on their DOGS, and I think a series with the most popular breeds would be a big seller.

How about a stamp for:
APWU
NALC
NRLCA
NPMHU

My son, Charlie, says "The Annoying Thing, a.k.a. Crazy Frog" would be a good stamp, my husband says the Three Stooges, and I would have to say guitars (especially Martin)

I definitely think the cutest stamp of all time was the Muppet stamps. They were so full of color. Just beautiful. We most certainly need to offer a better variety of holiday stamps with lots of colors. Scenic stamps would be a plus too!

Anonymous said...

I would like to see a sympathy stamp, a thank you stamp and a series of beautiful fall stamps!

Anonymous said...

I too would like to see all occasion stamps. Roses are always popular, especially for sympathy cards. I also liked and sold alot of the happy birthday stamps. Cartoon chacters are ok for kids, but alot of older folks, the ones who still write letters by hand, don't especially care for them.

How about a sheet of various country churches with scenic backgrounds. They are disappearing fast, along with the small family farms. Another idea would be old barns, which are also becoming a thing of the past. Have each stamp represent a different architectural design. I think both of these would sell, because in these difficult economic times, people like to reminisce about simpler times.

Anonymous said...

Maybe different makes of tractors for honoring agricluture/farming.Seems like most stamps are purchased by women or businesses; so maybe more flowers/trees, birds/wildlife, maybe hunting/fishing stamps for the men. Flags are always popular and I think different branches of the military on stamps along with the VA, DAV, POW/MIA, American Legion, VFW and all organizations that represent military past and present.
How about a stamp with the USPS logo on it; starting with the Pony Express and moving through the years till present day?

Teapots!

Anonymous said...

Definately NASCAR....previous car stamps have sold out in my office.

Anonymous said...

Muscle cars, too....that would be cool.

Anonymous said...

I, too, would love to see some pretty pictures of old barns. I agree that colorful stamps please the customer the most.

Anonymous said...

I think we should have stamps with missing children on them, it might help find them!

Anonymous said...

Missing children stamps are brilliant!!!

Definitely more Holiday Stamps! St. Patty's, Easter, 4th of July, and Thanksgiving especially. I agree that our current Celebrate stamp is not attractive and unless you tell someone what it is, you can't even figure out that it says Celebrate!

Anonymous said...

A farm implement pane would be a huge seller in our rural areas! The suggestion that we print a graduation stamp is a good one. And customers ask all the time if we have anything with flowers!

Anonymous said...

To promote inclusion, a stamp with a collage of different ethnic people would encourage equality.

We need something to remind us forever that:
TRUTH - the Truth will make you Free.
The US lacks so much truth it is pathetic the depths
to which the country has decayed. And knowing the truth is only half the battle - acting upon it is even more important.

Not sure how the hologram stamps sold (or how much it cost to produce them) but they were cool! If they were profitable, maybe some more of them in a popular topic.

I would like to see the spay/neuter stamp reissued. There are too many unwanted animals.
