USPS 2010 Stamp Program announced

Noble Peace Prize honoree Mother Teresa, legendary actress Katharine Hepburn, Negro Leagues Baseball and Cowboys of the Silver Screen are among the subjects headlining the 2010 stamp program, the U.S. Postal Service announced today.

Expected to be among the most collected stamps are The Sunday Funnies stamp pane which honors Archie, Beetle Bailey, Dennis the Menace, Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes.  This goes on sale in July. Another highlight is the Scouting stamp, also on sale in July.

Click on the stamp image below for a full description. Which do you think will sell the best? What's your personal favorite?  Drop me a note here.

The Year of the Tiger and Love stamps are beautiful, and the Holiday evergreens are nice for the entire winter season. I like the Angel with Lute but wonder if we'll get complaints because we don't have a Madonna and Child stamp this year.

I LOVE the Love stamp! Very nice! The Sunday Funnies will sell very well here. The lack of a Madonna and Child Christmas stamp is a very big blunder. That is what the season is about, and the customers in my town will definitely be complaining about it!! I guess we should save some of this year's back if we want them, as long as we don't go over on stamp stock limits.

I too like the pinecones. Also the rain forest stamps. I used to take the full color page out of the Postal Bulletin and post it for the year. No more Postal Bulletin in hard copy. Do we still have the posters? Are they free?

Benny thinks the 2009 Madonna and child stamp will simply be carried over for this year. So, a traditional stamp will still be available. Remember, no rate increase this year, so the stamp can stay the same.

I really like the Lunar Year, Monarch Butterfly, Love: Pansies, Cowboys of the Silver Screen, Sunday Funnies. If I have to pick just one, I will go with Monarch Butterfly.

What a wonderful line of stamps.

My favorites are the Cowboys of the Silver Screen. I too think no Madonna is a big blunder. The angel with flute doesn't even look like an angel and it doesn't say Chritmas. I had numerous cutomers this year making a point to buy the one stamp that said Christmas on it.

Cowboys and the Sunday Comics will be BIG sellers! Happy New Year everyone!

The pine cone stamp is wonderful for the winter time, but I am partial to the flower stamps (I prefer the warmer climates). I am disappointed (like others above) that there isn't the stamp with Christmas on it. I am not a fan of the abstract expressionists and wonder how well they will sell. I guess the important thing is that we sell stamps. Happy New Year and let's all hope that 2010 is a very good year for the Postal Service.

I think the Cowboys of the Silver Screen will sell well. Lots of baby boomers (like me) grew up in the 60's watching Roy Rogers on TV. I think our age group still buys a lot of stamps to mail bills, cards, etc.

I had lots of customers ask specifically for "religious Christmas" stamps...they like to promote the "true reason for the season". I think I'll be holding on to what I have left for next year!!

P.S. Not crazy about the pine cone.

It's going to be another outstanding year of stamp releases! Please remember that the current 44 cent stamps will be be usable, too, including the Sassoferrato Madonna and Child. There are too many good ones to pick a favorite, but I LOVE that USPS is finally issuing a single, pretty -- the Monarch Butterfly -- stamp for square envelopes. People send greeting cards, invitations and special announcements in those square envelopes, and they deserve an attractive stamp. The stamp posters are still available in USA Philatelic. You can order them free at the Postal Store on usps.com. In fact, you can get 10 copies free, which is what I order to share with others. If you order, you will automatically receive the next, quarterly, issue. Otherwise, you have to reorder every 3 months.

I Love the Love stamp, last years was very strange, my customers did not like it at all. They didnt like any of the books last year, and neither did I. I couldnt give Bart Simpson books away. I think Mother Theresa will be a big seller, as well as the Love. I personally like the Angel with lute. And I love the pine cone! I dont think the lack of Madonna and child will be as big of deal as others think. I think the Angel will work just fine. But we'll see.
I just had a customer in the other day, wanting something for a bunch baby shower invitations. Hmmmm?
Maybe next year a really festive Celebrate stamp. I have never cared for this last one. Just my opinion.

When will the Postal Service ever start issuing the Love Stamp prior to Valentines Day??? I find it very odd they always wait until later in the spring.

Many of my customers ask for the HAPPY BIRTHDAY stamp. They never give up hope and will ask me everytime, "Have they re-issued the Happy Birthday stamp yet?" It was a popular stamp.

I wish that they would have put the Silver screen Cowboys with their famous horses-that would have been simply fabulous!!!

The Love stamp and Lunar New Year.
We have always been able to sell an abundance of anything with a flower on it.

Definitely the Lunar New Year!

I love the Legends of Hollywood stamps, so my favorite would be Katherine Hepburn. However I think the most popular one in my office is going to be the Love stamp.

The love stamp is the best ever!
The postal customers always ask for bird or flower stamps. I think we could sell more by having a larger variety of those two subjects, rather than so many people.

A few years back, there was an angel Christmas stamp that went over very well. It was a lot prettier than this one though, but I hope the new one will sell well, too. I agree that we ought to make sure that we have some of this year's Madonna and Child handy.

Is anyone else having trouble clicking on the individual stamps and getting a description?

I work for the USPS at the 1-800-STAMP24 number and can tell you that the Madonna and Sleeping Child stamp WILL STILL BE AVAILABLE for the 2010 holiday. The Angel and Lute was supposed to be issued last year but was postponed, so now you basically have more choices. The Angel and Lute is based off of a painting that is on display in the Vatican so there isnt much control the USPS has over how much or how little it looks like an angel. As others above have mentioned, there is not going to be a price increase so all 44 cent stamps issued in 2009 will still be available.
