A Friendly Reminder

Hello all, Benny here. I just wanted to take a moment to remind you that this coming Sunday, May 13th, is Mother’s Day.

When I was no taller than the doorknob of our house, I remember my mother, Abiah, showing a mountain of patience in raising me and my 16 brothers and sisters. I’m not sure how she put up with us sometimes, and especially me a few more times than that, but the love she showered us with helped make me the man that I became.

If you’re searching for just the right words to scribble inside your mother’s card before dropping it in the mail, here are a few that might help inspire your creativity:

-   Mother, you've given me two things...one is roots, the other is wings.”
-   “The joys of motherhood are never fully experienced until the children are in bed.”
-   “For all that you’ve given me in my lifetime, the greatest gift of all has been your love.”

Approximately 50% of all households give Mother’s Day cards for a total of nearly 152 million cards every year. Be sure to let your mother know how special she is to you, even if it’s just to remind yourself of the same.

Benny

This is not my fondest memory but one that showed her greatest love for me. She was being transported by ambulance to Hospice where she would live only two days. I rode along with her and the paraedics. I was obviously upset and the ambulance ride was very bumpy. I made a noise of discomfort after a hugh bump in the road and she woke up, looked at me and then the paramedic and said help my daughter. Here she is losing the battle with cancer and worring about ME. How touching to see a mothers love so unconditional. I knew at that moment she was still MY mom, even thought the cancer was taking her away from me.

My Mother was always gracious. She was also there for me during the good times and the bad. I miss her so much. Happy Mother's Day Mom.

My fondest memory of my mom is also my firt memory of my mom. It is when she and Dad came and picked me up from the adoption agency when I was four years old, and became the "forever family" I needed. I ran down the hall, fell, and then jumped up and ran into her arms. And thus began a relationship that has helped me become who I am today, and to become the mom I am today to my three sons. Thank you, Mom!

My fondest moment is only 6 weeks old. Watching the tears in her eyes as she held her first great-grandchild in her arms. We're 5 living generations strong, now, and this is the best mother's day for all of us.

It's not a single fondest memory, but an entire collection of memories of the love, care and attention shown by my Mother to my Son. She cared for him after school, and we ate supper with her and my Dad most weekday evenings. She died when my son was 13, and he insisted on taking a caregiving shift -- along with the rest of us -- during her dying days. He'll be 40 this year -- a fine man -- and much of what he is today is because of her.

This is the first time I've been away from home (moved out of state), so it's my first mother's day away from mom. Happy mother's day mom! Look for your gift in the mail soon.
